Fenugreek (Trigonella foenum-graecum L.)
Fenugreek is the brownish-yellow seed of the Trigonella foenum-graecum L of the pea family (Fabaceae) with a rhombic shape (about 3 mm). The generic name Trigonella comes from the Latin meaning "Little triangle" in reference with the shape of the yellow seeds. The taste is bitter and aromatic and the seeds are usually roasted and ground before used. Besides the name Fenugreek it is also known as Greek hay (foenum-graecum).

The exporting countries today include India, France, Lebanon, Egypt, and Argentina.
