Pimento is made from healthy, whole, dried and cleaned fruits of the tree Pimenta Diocoa L, plant family Myrtaceae (myrtle family). The organoleptical quality is stronghly aromatic, like cloves with a hint of cinnamon and nutmeg; the taste is similar, but with some peppery heat.
Most important origins are Mexico, quatemala, Honduras and Jamaica, with mexico having the lowest and Jamaica having the highest oilcontent. The genus name Pimenta comes from Spanish pimienta for black pepper.
